Freda passed away peacefully in the Victoria General Hospital at 7:00 p.m., May 6, 2000. She is survived by her husband Arthur; sons, Arthur (Leslie), Donald (Elizabeth) and daughter Katherine Walkty (Ian) six grandchildren, Trent and Grant Hoole, Andrew and Scott Walkty and Heather and Liza-Dawn Hoole. Also, one cousin David Creba lives in Winnipeg. Her early schooling at Laura Secord and Kelvin High School was followed by graduation from United College (now University of Winnipeg) with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons. Economics) and from the University of Manitoba with an Education degree. She also earned her A.T.C.M. In her graduate year (1935) at United College she was elected Lady Stick (an equivalent to the presidency of her student body). Freda taught music in Fort Garry and Winnipeg School Divisions until the return of her husband from the war. She lived in Vancouver, Calgary and finally in Winnipeg in the early 1950s devoting her energies to bringing up her three children. Following their graduations at University she returned to the Winnipeg School Division as an itinerant music teacher. In the 1970s she joined her husband in the Northern Educational Project organized by the Faculty of Social Work, University of Manitoba. While not a staff member, she made a significant contribution to the program, so much so that she has had the unique recognition of being a joint recipient of an award called the Arthur and Freda Hoole Award, established by the University of Manitoba. It will be offered as an annual bursary award for social work students. Freda was proud to be a member of the 20 Club and valued her association with its members. She was very active in musical circles in Winnipeg as a performer as well as a teacher. She was a member of the Womens Musical Club and sang with the Oriana Singers for several years. She was recognized for her successful leadership with school choirs and directed the Winnipeg Boys Choir for one year. She sang as a soprano soloist at Young United Church. Freda worked as a volunteer in many aspects (Music festival, association for retarded children as it was formerly called and children with handicaps). She also convened many of the school teas when her children were young and took great pleasure in creating decorations for these events. She was a member of All Saints Anglican Church for over 50 years. At the church, she worked with the young people. She started a young womens group (the Juniors), helped with Cubs and was an active member of the womens alter guild. Freda was a gracious lady; she loved and was loved dearly by her family and friends. She always will be a beautiful memory for her children, grandchildren and friends - especially cherished by her Arthur. At her request cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in All Saints Anglican Church (located at Broadway and Osborne) Friday, May 12 at 1:30 in the afternoon, with the Rev. J. Draper officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Womens Musical Club or to All Saints Anglican Church would be gratefully received. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
