DENNIS AUSTIN MYMKO 1941 - 2000 On May 9, 2000, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, Dennis fell asleep in The Lord. He was predeceased by his father-in-law William Chunick, in 1998. Dennis will be loved and cherished forever by his wife Linda and loving children Jarret and Erin (Michael) Weekes. He was the devoted son of Steve and Helen Mymko of Dauphin, MB, and brother of Irene (Raymond) McNabb of Komoka, ON. Also left to celebrate his life are Lindas family whom Dennis thought of as his own; her mother Jean Chunick, her sisters Sharon (Jim) McMillan and Russella (Greg) Secord, brother Tom (Cindy) Chunick and all of his nieces and nephews who were loved dearly by Dennis. He will also be greatly missed by special friend Archbishop Antony (John Scharba) and Jarrets girlfriend Carrie Todd. Dennis was born in Dauphin, MB on December 17, 1949. He was raised and educated in Gilbert Plains, MB and obtained his degree in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1971. At that time he began a 29 year career with the Farm Credit Corporation, a job that was never work, but always enjoyment. His leadership and commitment were respected by all of his colleagues. He married Linda Chunick in 1973 and over the years they made their home in Roblin, Dauphin, Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg. Dennis energy and positive attitude was reflected in every aspect of his life. He was a wonderful father who put all his heart and soul in his childrens activities from baseball coach to being the loudest spectator at volleyball, hockey and other events. He worked tirelessly for many organizations, especially Erins Ukrainian dance groups in both Portage and Winnipeg. He was an organizer!! If you needed a job done, he gave 100% and more. His faith and belief that this was "Gods plan" helped sustain him throughout his illness. While living in Portage he was president of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Dennis was also president of All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Transcona both before and after living in Portage. His contributions of time and energy to the churches were invaluable. Dennis life revolved around his family. His home was the centre of every family gathering through the years. Dennis and Linda always opened their home to friends and neighbours. We will always remember the annual Burns Bay BBQ held in their beautiful back yard. His passion and appreciation for gardening was evident in the love and care that went into every flower planted. Dennis never stopped moving (well miss you running behind the lawnmower)! He loved all sports and had a competitive spirit. He claimed to be the fastest runner on his Western Bearing slo-pitch team. He also enjoyed curling, golfing, fishing and cross-country skiing. Dennis was an unselfish, affectionate man who put everyone elses needs before his, right to the end. He accepted his illness with undying faith and a great spirit. He met the challenges with dignity and courage, giving us the inspiration to carry on. Dennis family wishes to express gratitude beyond words to every single person who has touched their lives with acts of kindness and compassion throughout his illness. We especially wish to thank those who made it possible for Dennis to spend his final days at home. Special thanks to Carla, Dr. Maksymiak and everyone at Manitoba Cancer Care who cared for Dennis with compassion and dignity. Family gratefully declines flowers, but if desired, a donation may be made to Manitoba Cancer Care, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB. Prayers will be said tonight, Thursday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 1175 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Cathedral, with Archbishop Antony and Dennis parish priest of All Saints (Transcona) Very Rev. Dennis, your light still shines. We will love you forever. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements; 586-8044.
