EUGENE POMERLEAU Peacefully on May 9, 2000, at the Concordia Hospital, Eugene Pomerleau, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 66. Eugene was born February 28, 1934, in St. Boniface, the second chid of Leo and Celina. In his early years, he lived in St. Boniface and Ste. Rose du Lac, returning to Winnipeg as a young adult. Gene started working at an early age and at 17 began working for the City of Winnipeg, where he worked in various departments for 33 years. He retired in 1984 as a timekeeper in the Finance Department. Apart from his career with the City of Winnipeg, Genes greatest pleasure came from his involvement with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders, which he joined as a private in 1957 and retired as R.S.M. in 1984. In 1987, Gene and Lorraine moved to Sandy Hook and Gene promptly became involved with golf, curling and the Winnipeg Beach Lions Club. In 1994, as his health worsened, Gene and Lorraine returned to Winnipeg. Although he was not as active as he would have liked, he still was involved with the Fort Garry Gate Lions Club as President, the Transcona Retired Citizens Club. He enjoyed his mornings with "The Pool Room Gang" and especially the Royal Canadian Legion - Transcona Branch #7, where he made many friends and which he considered his "second home." Gene was a friendly, generous man who made friends wherever he went. He was always willing to lend a helping hand with a smile. He will be missed by the many that knew him. Eugene was predeceased by his father in 1984, his sister Yvonne in 1990, his mother in 1991 and his brother Louis in 1999. He is survived by his loving wife Lorraine; his daughter Michelle; grandchildren, Troy and Celina; as well as in-laws, Vera, Al (Joan), Marion (Phil) sister Clemence; brother Albert and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with Padre Paul Martin officiating. If friends so wish, donations may be made in Genes memory to the Royal Canadian Legion #7 at 117 Regent Ave. E., to assist them in their many good works. The family wishes to thank the nurses on 3E at Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion. A special thank you to Dr. R. Macek and the many friends who have been so supportive during this difficult time. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
