He will be greatly missed and leaves to cherish his memory his wife Elaine; and his daughters, Gail, Caron and her husband David Mailing, Michelle and her husband Dale Sheedy; also his precious grandchildren, Elissa and Keuzie Mailing; together with his sister Marjorie; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Arthur Wellby; nephews, Dylan, Arthur and Brooke; sister-in-law Jacqui Every Simpson; sister Daphne Brown and husband Charles Brown; nephews, David and Nigel Simpson; niece Lynn Travis; also Aunt Ena and Richard, Perry and Uncle Deck DaLuz; and many cousins and dear friends in England. Rod was born on December 25, 1925 in Calcutta, India, by British parents and the good Christian teachings of the Anglican faith. He enjoyed what may have been considered somewhat favourable circumstances for the first 24 years of his life, enjoying such activities as soccer, cricket and field hockey. He was educated in private boarding schools in Victoria School Kurseong and finally graduated from La Martiniere College, Lucknow. Upon leaving school he was employed by the Royal Chamber of Commence, Licensed Measurers Department for a period of five and a half years, before leaving to join James Warren and Company in a managerial capacity. In 1949 shortly after India joined Independence from Britain, together with family, they immigrated to England to join relatives in London. After a short stint in Commerce and Industry, Rod embarked on a police career. He joined the The Bedfordshire Constabulary and served in the rank of Constable for a period of six years, before deciding in 1957 to immigrate to Canada with Elaine and his daughter Gail. Rod served with the City of Winnipeg Police Department for a period of ten years. The next 17 years, Rod spent in a management capacity in the security industry and finally, before retiring, enjoyed five years as our instructor with Robertson Career College. He did especially enjoy that period and the students he helped to upgrade their lives. During his 43 years in Winnipeg, Rod will also be remembered for his contributions to the game of field hockey. Rod served as President of the Manitoba Field Hockey Association. He represented Provincial Teams as a player, captain and coach. He also coached Womens Senior Provincial Team, and achieved National Umpire Certification. Friendship was perhaps Rods forte, he placed it above all else. He enjoyed 43 years of special times with friends, socializing, golfing, humour, story and joke telling. He always maintained he was a rich man because of his many friends. Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. If friends so desire, donations in Rods memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
