ALEXANDER JAMES (SANDY) PATTON Peacefully on May 9, 2000, Sandy Patton passed away at Fairview Home, Brandon. He leaves to mourn his passing his only son Garry and his wife Margo and grandchildren, Gregory, Geoffrey (Theresa), Shelley (Gord), Scott and Jan. He was predeceased by his wife Florrie in 1970 and his daughter-in-law Jean in 1980. Born March 11, 1910, the only son of Emma and Jack Patton, Sandy resided all of his life in Brandon, MB. As a young man, in addition to working ten hours a day at Wade and Sons, Dad built our familys first home on 24th Street. From digging the basement by hand to the completion of the interior, Dad and Mom worked together to complete this labour of love. Active in his community, he volunteered on many committees for the West End Community Club and served as president several times. Dad especially loved skating and dancing. Cottage life was an important part of both Mom and Dads life and Dad built cottages at Sandy Lake and Clear Lake. In later years, a trailer at Sportsman Park replaced his cottage and he continued to enjoy summers and barn dances at Clear Lake. Painting and decorating became his lifes work and this continued into his early eighties. A.S. Barr and Company and Dunc. Berman and Company were two firms that benefitted from his skills. Following that, Sandy was a painter and general handyman for Fairview Home and also worked in many Brandon homes and businesses. Sandy loved painting and took great pride in his work. Sandy, as his father Jack before him, was a 60+ year member of the Odd Fellows, Chapter 6. He was a member of Central United Church and for several years delighted in being a regular usher for the 11:00 a.m. Sunday service. We are especially grateful for the friendship of Alberta Boles. Together, she and Dad regularly attended the Booster Dances at the Keystone Arena and were season ticket holders for the Brandon Wheat Kings. Her kindness to Dad over the years is sincerely appreciated by our family. We wish to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to all the staff of Fairview Home for their care of Dad these past two years. A celebration and thanksgiving of Sandys life was held on Friday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. at Central United Church, with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood officiating. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. If friends so wish, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 203 - 42 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB, R7A 2B2 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, Brandon, 1-800-897-5694. "Dad and Grandfather, your strong work ethic and perseverance in maintaining your independence will always be remembered by all who knew you. We love you and will miss you dearly. - Love, your family."
