PETER ANDERSON MacKENZIE On Saturday, May 6, 2000 at the Langley Hospital, Langley, B.C., Peter MacKenzie, aged 95 years formerly of Winnipeg and Balmoral. Peter Anderson MacKenzie was born on July 4, 1904 at Craggie Inn. District of Daviot in the county of Inverness, Scotland. He along with his sisters, Evelyn, Florence and brother William John came with parents, Peter and Mary MacKenzie to Canada in 1908. They settled at Sandilands, Winnipeg and in 1910 moved to Balmoral, Man. Peter worked for Mr. Wm. McLeod while going to school and planted the spruce trees that you see going to P.T.H. #7. In 1921, Peter went to Winnipeg and was employed by Wright and Whally commission agents at the Union Stockyards. He retired in 1970 and he and his wife Belle moved to Victoria, B.C. Peter was an independent man - a quality of the Scottish race. There is perhaps only a thin line between independence and what sometimes in our impatience we might be tempted to call stubbornness and this otherwise sterling quality posed some difficulties but this independence made for a wonderfully authentic life, self possessed, competent and purposeful. He was also a very devoted husband and a friend to many people. One cannot think of Peter without remembering his 1955 Dodge which he drove out to British Columbia upon retirement and looked after it until recently when ill health forced him to give up driving. Peter was noted for his walking ability. He was a great walker and enjoyed being out in the fresh air. He could outwalk many persons who were older or younger than he was. He was also a very kind and considerate person. He is survived by his loving wife Vera and members of the Lacey family; brother Cameron of Audlem, Cheshire, England and sister Jean Mazur of Hudson Bay, Sask.; grandchildren, Sherry and Rob MacKenzie, Kim, Kevin, Karen, Kelly Ann and great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Linnette, Justin, Jessica, Cailin and Caley. He was predeceased by his first wife Belle; sons, Donald and Kenneth; brothers, William John and Alexander Duncan; sisters, Lydia, Hazel, Florence, Evelyn and Helen. Cremains were interred in the family plot, Stonewall Cemetery. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall.
