Date of Passing: May 11, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNADETTE MARIE SIMKO Tragically, on May 11, 2000, at home in Selkirk, MB, our mother, Bernadette Marie Simko was taken from us at the age of 72 years. Bernadette leaves to cherish her memory her children, Donald (Patti) Simko; Pat (Chug) Grimolfson; Rose (Jack) Walsh; Mark (Lynda) Simko; Linda (Glenn) Hacking; as well as her grandchildren, Gord (Erin), Evan, Lisa, Brady, Steven and great-granddaughter Emily. She will be deeply missed by her brother Roland (Alice) Dupasquier of Selkirk, MB, as well as her brother Denis (Joyce) Dupasquier of St. Claude, MB. Bernadette also leaves numerous relatives and close friends to celebrate her memory. Bernadette was predeceased by her husband George Simko in 1981; her parents, Gustave in 1958 and Marie in 1987; her sister Marie and brothers, Charles, Albert, John, Rene and George. Mom was born on July 2, 1928 in St. Claude, MB. She attended her schooling in St. Claude and worked as an egg grader for a short time. Eventually her employment moved her to Winnipeg where she met and married George Simko in 1957. After residing in Winnipeg a few years, the Simkos moved to the family farm in the Oak Hammock area. In the early 1960s they moved to Selkirk where they raised their family. Mom was employed as a housekeeper at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre for many years until her retirement. Mom possessed a great love for life. She was always seen smiling and laughing with others and cherished times spent with family and friends. She was always willing to help family members in any way she could. When asked for her advice she always dispensed it in a gentle, unassuming manner. Her family was extremely important to her and she meant everything to us. Mom was a vibrant, energetic woman who was always on the move. She enjoyed travelling and going for long walks around Selkirk. For the past few years, part of her daily routine entailed morning coffee with close friends at a local restaurant. In the early 1990s Mom purchased a mobile home north of Lac Du Bonnet and looked forward to occasions when the entire family would converge and spend time together at the trailer. Many happy memories originated during our time at the lake and it was one of her greatest joys. There are few words which can express our intense feeling of loss at this time. We will miss her deeply. Her pallbearers will be Ron Burgoyne, Gerald Dupasquier, Bob Dupasquier, Bob Burgoyne, Gerald Rey and Hank Dupasquier. Prayers will be held on Monday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Gilbarts Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Jemima Street, Selkirk. Father B. Wardzinski officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bernadettes memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. Miss Me - But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared Miss me - but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take And each must go alone, Its all a part of the Masters plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds Miss me - but let me go. GILBART FUNERAL HOME, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
