Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE BUTLER (nee McClafferty) Peacefully, on Saturday, May 13, 2000, Cassie passed away at The Middlechurch Home, at the age of 101. Cassie was born to Manus and Mary McClafferty on December 20, 1898, the fourth of twelve children, in Falcarragh, County Donegal, Ireland. In her early twenties, Cassie emigrated to Canada and was employed with the CP Hotels in Alberta. It was there she met her future husband, Henry. Cassie and Henry were married in New York City and in 1931 moved to East St. Paul, Manitoba. Cassie was very active in her Catholic faith, firstly at St. Alphonsus and later at Holy Redeemer. She was a long time member of the Sons of Ireland and in later years enjoyed her membership with the ESP Seniors Club. After the death of her husband Henry in 1982, Cassie moved to Oakland Estates Senior Apartments, moving to Middlechurch Home in 1991. In 1969, Cassie and Henry had an opportunity to return to their homeland and visit with friends and relatives in Ireland. Cassie was a gentle and kind mother who dearly loved her family. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and was very supportive of their endeavours. Cassie was predeceased by her loving husband Henry, her sons, Jim and Jack, her grandson Danny, and her son-in-law George Skipper. She is survived by her sons, Rob (Barbara) of Applegate, CA, Dan (Claudia) of Pinawa, Fred (Janie) of East St. Paul; her daughters, Kathleen Skipper of Omaha, NE, and Iris Price of Winnipeg; her daughters-in-law, Susan of Iowa City, IA and Ethel of New Brunswick, NJ; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister Julia Campbell of Brocton, MA. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Middlechurch Home (especially the staff of B1), for the wonderful care given to their Mother. Mass of Christian Burial in thanksgiving for Cassies life will be celebrated with Monsignor Louis McCloskey, P.H. officiating, on Wednesday, May 17 at St. Theresas Church, 3597 Main St., West St. Paul (next to Middlechurch), at 11:00 a.m. with viewing at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
