JOHN BOHONOS Born: May 18, 1901 - Passed Away: May 16, 2000 John Bohonos, age 98 years, passed away peacefully at Fred Douglas Nursing Home on Burrows Avenue. He is survived by his only daughter, Sylvia Derenchuk; son-in-law George; three grandchildren, Craig, Grant and Carlyne; son-in-law Alain Drouin; three great-grandchildren, Yanic, Sacha and Jeremy. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary in 1961; second wife Katherine in 1979; brother Andrew and three sisters in Ukraine. John was born in the village of Peremiliev, in the Tarnopol District in Western Ukraine May 18, 1901. He came to Canada in May of 1927 to seek a better life. John worked for the CPR as a Carmans helper, until retirement in 1966. He was a member of W.B.A. and the Senior Citizens Club. He was an avid sports enthusiast, wrestling, his favorite. He enjoyed gardening very much and played pool with a vengeance. He had a very good attitude in life, always looked toward the future and seldom reminisced about past hardships. John was very generous to his family and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. He will be greatly missed by all of us. A special thanks to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge for giving him such good care. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Luxton Avenue. Service will terminate at the Chapel.
