Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ELDON MORRIS After a brief illness, John Eldon Morris, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the Seven Oaks General Hospital on May 16, 2000. John was born on March 7, 1918 on Pacific Avenue in Winnipeg to John Edwin and Mary Jane Morris (nee Presley), the fourth of five children. He grew up in the neighborhood and attended Pinkham School. As a teenager, John started to work in the warehouse at Palm Dairies Ltd. and he worked his way up to driver. He then worked for Burns as a driver and later as a foreman on the shipping docks. In 1983, he retired from Burns after working for the company for 47 years. John met Elizabeth Duncan Ross and the two were married on August 24, 1940. The couple spent a lifetime together raising their family in Winnipeg and later opened their hearts and their home to all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At Home, Dad enjoyed working in the yard, washing and maintaining his car and feeding birds of all kinds. He also loved spending time at the trailer at Norris Lake and building or inventing things. In particular, he had a fondness for bicycles and was forever creating what the family called Franken-bikes. He also had an appreciation for dogs, especially Boston Terriers, and he liked to be in their company. He will be remembered by his wife Beth; his children, John (Barb), Alan (Diane), Barney, Glenn (Debbie), Betty (Jack), and Buster; his grandchildren, Rob (Sabrina), Roberta (Merv), Buddy (Jackie), John W J, Jamie, Calvan (Fiancee Elaine), Patrick, Rodger, Kelly and Pamela and his great-grandchildren, Rhys, Clarissa, Elizabeth and Dakota. He was predeceased by his sons Robert and William. The family would like to express special thanks to the Unit 1, fifth floor nursing staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassionate care.
