VIOLET AGNES SHIELDS (nee NORBERG) February 4, 1943 - May 15, 2000 A beautiful, happy spirit has left this finite world during the night of Mothers Day. Violet (Vi) Shields of Winnipeg will now be re-kindling old acquaintances and making new friendships on the other side that we know so little about, but she never lost faith in. The love and generosity she radiated will never be forgotten by her husband Ralph (37 years) her eldest son David (father of of Mathew and Chelsey), younger son Brent, his wife Kathy and their daughter Jessica. Having grown up on the Norberg family farm near Meadows, Man., Vi went on to graduate from business college and worked for several companies in the Winnipeg area including a national film company and did modeling part time for a clothing manufacturer. In Dryden, where they resided for 37 years, she was known as "Mrs. Liberal" due to her active long time involvement in politics. In addition to her work in the insurance and real estate industries, she served as an assistant to the Regional Coroner, an executive assistant at the local paper mill and ran the constituency office for the local Member of Parliament for several years. Her volunteer social work was also extensive and she was a leader of a local church youth group. Vi leaves many friends in Dryden, where she is still fondly remembered as a very active part of the community. Not enough can be said about this very loving, caring person whos untimely yet peaceful passing will remind those whos lives she has touched what a very special person she was. All who knew her will have their own memories of her kindness and generosity. She leaves to mourn her passing husband Ralph; children, David and Brent (Kathy) grandchildren, Mathew, Chelsey and Jessica; immediate family Gunner Norberg (Delphi), Ron Norberg, Ruth Nordstrom (Lawrence), Reg Taylor, George Norberg (Olive), Em Farmer (Bob), Dorothy Norberg, Eddie Norberg (Joy), Kay West, Freda Woods, Jean and Erv Robinson, and countless nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Vi was predeceased by her parents, Julius and Maria Norberg; mother and father-in-law, Howard and Florence Shields, Len Norberg, Elaine Norberg, Eric Norberg, Rome Croswell, Gary Shields, Stan Woods, Sam Taylor and Karen Smart. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 600 Cambridge St. at Corydon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Marks Lutheran Church.
