CATHERINE JOHAN (KAY) ELIASON On Friday, May 19th, Kay Eliason, aged 81, beloved wife of Magnus Eliason, died peacefully at home with her family around her. Kay was born in Faulkner, Manitoba and lived in Faulkner and Winnipeg before moving to Scotland in 1934. She trained as a Nurse at Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow and graduated in 1940. Kay nursed in Scotland until she returned to Canada in 1948 and in Montreal and Toronto. In the early 1950s she came to Winnipeg where she worked at the Winnipeg General, the Victoria and the St. Boniface Hospitals. Following her retirement from nursing she joined her husbands insurance business, retiring in 1985. Kay, along with her husband Magnus was active in the NDP. She was a member of The Winnipeg North Centre Ladies Organization and a Delegate to many provincial and federal Conventions in the 1960s and 1970s. A member of the Unitarian Service Committee for many years, Kay held office of Treasurer and was deeply committed to her work throughout the world. Kay was an active member of the League for Life. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Murdo and Catherine Macfarlane; her brothers, Donald, killed in action during the Second World War in 1942 and Malcolm in 1990. Besides her husband Magnus, Kay leaves to mourn her passing her sister Ann Large (Don) of London, ON, Murdo McFarlane (Diana) of St. Albert, AB, John Macfarlane (Ena) of Oakville, ON, sister-in-law Dawn Macfarlane of Selkirk, MB; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnephews and well loved family and friends in Scotland and Canada. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St., with Reverend Ingthor Isfeld officiating. Following the service there will be a reception at the Scandinavian Centre, 764 Erin St. Interment to follow in Arnes Cemetery. The pallbearers will be nephews Gordon Macfarlane, Ade, Wale, Kola and Tosin Opanubi and Brian Sigurdson. If friends desire, donations may be made in Kays memory to a charity of your choice.
