Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL MANKEWICH With deep sorrow, the family announces the sudden passing of Michael Mankewich, age 80 years, of Stonewall on Tuesday, May 23, 2000. Mike was born in Dallas, Man. on September 3, 1919 where he farmed until 1972. He then moved to Argyle and continued to farm there. He had a great love for farming and continued to chase his cattle until the time of his passing. In his early years at Dallas, he served on several local church and school committees. Mike joined the Knights of Columbus and later received an honorary life membership. Mikes contribution to family life was very special. He was a man of few words, but his simple gestures demonstrated a deep pride and affection for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Mike also believed that there are many challenges in life, but the love and support of family and strong faith will master all. His father, being a true pioneer, taught Mike the old-fashioned ethics of hard work, perseverance, and dedication, and in return, he passed this legacy on to his children. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Savella Mankewich and their seven children, Marge Kohut (Bob) grandchildren, Crystal, Candace and Nicole; Virginia Crockatt (Ken), grandchildren, Deric, Christine and Michael; Harvey Mankewich (Allison), grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa and Myles; Julian Mankewich (Patti), grandchildren, Matthew, Kelli and Olivia; Nadine Coolidge (Blair), grandchildren, Adam, Stuart and Graham; Vernon Mankewich (Joan), grandchildren, Megan and Janessa; and Denise McGregor (Robert), grandson Evan. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Olga Prystupa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Olga Mankewich, Stella Mankewich, Orest and Rose Prystupa, Stella and Steve Uruski, Adele and Mike Monasterski, Zen and Don MacDonald, John and Helene Prystupa, Marvin and Joanne Prystupa, Theresa Prystupa, Leonard and Terry Prystupa; special friend Doreen Kostynuik, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by infant daughter Violet; parents, Maciej and Julia; father-in-law Anton Prystupa; brothers, Carl (Pearl), Stanley, Marvin (Mary) and Tony; sisters, Marcella Ritchot and Victoria (Mike) Chodachek and sister-in-law Joan Prystupa. Family and friends are invited to a prayer service on Friday, May 26 at 7:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 391 Main Street, Stonewall. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 307 2nd Street East in Stonewall with Father Ray Baudry and Rev. Mr. Robert Giasson officiating. Pallbearers will be Anthony Mankewich, Harold Mankewich, Karl Ritchot, Brian Morrison, Barry Mankewich and Robert Prystupa. The family would like to thank everyone who helped in our time of need. Uncle Mike worked hard for his family and showed us a leadership quietly in his understanding way..some of my favorite memories are cleaning the barn and hitching the horses and stonebolt then unloading into the field during those very cold winter days.. He showed all his children, nieces and nephews to be patient and kind...These are things that we all understand and treasure many years later.
