ROBERT GEORGE MATCHETT Peacefully at the Tiger Hills Health Centre on Thursday May 25, 2000, Mr. Robert George Matchett of Rathwell, Manitoba passed away at the age of 91 years. He leaves to mourn his passing one brother Albert and wife Jessie Matchett of Treherne; two sisters-in-law, Jean and Leona Matchett both of Winnipeg; one aunt Irene Sadler of New Westminster B.C. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret Ellen (Nellie) in 1992; one son Robert Francis in 1971; his parents, Wilbert and Ethel Matchett; two sisters, Elsie Hooper and Ruby Deshayes and by three brothers, Clifford, James and Leslie. George was born at Treherne, Manitoba on February 9, 1909. He grew up on the family farm and then did some farming on his own. He was very proud of his team of horses which he drove for many years delivering mail to the rural areas. He also drove a fuel truck for Imperial for a number of years. In 1947 he married Nellie Kitching. They lived in Treherne where George worked, first in the Patterson and later at the Pool Elevator. He and Nellie had one son Robert born in 1950. In 1954 George was transferred to the Manitoba Pool Elevator at Coulter. Upon his retirement they moved to Rathwell. After Nellies death, George gave up his home and became a resident of the Green Prairie Lodge in Rathwell where he resided until he went into Treherne Hospital on April 10. George was a member of the Treherne and Coulter Untied Church. He sang in both Church Choirs for many years. He also sang in the choir at Indianford Church. With respect for Georges wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral Services will be held in the Rathwell Memorial Hall on Saturday May 27, at 2 p.m. with Reverend Georgina Loucks officiating. Interment to follow in the Woodlands Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends or family may send flowers, or charitable donations to the Green Prairie Lodge or a charity of choice.
