Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERNA MARY LABELLE (nee HILLIER) It is with great sadness that the family of Verna Labelle announces her passing on May 18, 2000 in Vancouver, B.C. Verna was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jack. Mother of Judith (Grant) Ritchie of Vancouver, Janice (Wayne) Critchley of Ottawa and Lynda (David) Collins of Winnipeg; Grandma V.M. to Cameron, Christy, Michael, Jennifer, Shaun and Andrea and great-grandmother to Ashley. As a longtime resident of Winnipeg, Verna was schooled in St. James, completed her B.A. (1934) at University of Manitoba and received her R.N. in 1937. After a rewarding nursing career she married Jack in 1940. Verna served her St. James community through her involvement in the Linwood School P.T.A., the Grace Hospital Auxiliary and St. James Anglican Church. She was a longtime member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. As a wife, mother and grandmother, she will be fondly remembered for her love of life and her unique sense of humour. She loved to entertain family and friends at her Overdale Street home and at the cottage at Whytewold Beach. Special thanks to the staff at the North Vancouver Kiwanis Care Centre for their compassionate and gentle care. Donations may be made in Vernas memory to the St. James Anglican Church Memorial Fund or the Alzheimer Society. A memorial service to celebrate Vernas life is to be held in July. Details will be announced at a later date.
