JOHNSTON (JOCK) OLIPHANT Peacefully, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, our dearly beloved husband and father passed away with his family at his side at the Riverview Health Centre on Tuesday, May 23, 2000 at the age of 78 years. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 52 years, Kathleen; sons, Bill (friend Ute), Gordon (Lenora) daughter Gail Caligiuri (Tony) grandchildren, Kellie and Ian Oliphant and Lesley Caligiuri; brothers, David (Maisie) from England and Bob (Madeline) from Scotland; sisters-in-law, Norma Zimmerman (John), Gwynne Hayton (Mike) from New Zealand; brother-in-law Brian Johnstone and several nieces and nephews. Jock was predeceased by his father Johnston; mother Christina; and grandson David Caligiuri. Jock was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 7, 1922. He attended George Heriot School and the College of Art in Edinburgh. Between 1942 and 1946 Jock served with the Royal Navy. He and Kathleen were married in 1948 and came to Canada. Jock was a self-employed cabinet maker and perfectionist with numerous hobbies. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre, 3 East, Dr. Marr, Dr. W. Clarke, Dr. M. Po and the VON homecare staff (especially Norma) for their care and compassion. Also, special thanks are extended to friends, John Higgins, Bob Russell, Don McKinnon and Alan Graham. Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service as Jock requested. Family and close friends are invited to a small gathering at the home of Norma and John Zimmerman, 102 Lennox Avenue, St. Vital on Sunday, May 28 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Jocks memory to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, R34L 2P4 or to a charity of ones choice.
