MINNIE MANYA TENENBAUM ZL With a great sense of loss, the family of Minnie "Manya" Tenenbaum announces her peaceful passing, on May 11, 2000, at the age of 103. Born in Nikolaev, Russia, on May 5, 1897, at an early age she worked as a seamstress to help support her family. In 1914 she journeyed to Canada to meet her fiance Leon Tenenbaum, and they were married on January 2, 1916. Together they raised four daughters and enjoyed sixty years of marriage until Leons death in December 1975. Manya had a strong social conscience and was an advocate for fairness and justice for all. She was very active in supporting Jewish education at all levels, as well as working tirelessly for the State of Israel through the Pioneer Women Naamatt Organization. She enjoyed hosting her wide circle of family and friends, whether at holiday celebrations or at her summer home in St. Norbert. A wonderful homemaker, Manya taught by example the art of good cooking, entertaining, concern for others, Judaic values and love for family. Even in her last ten years, as a resident of the Sharon Home, she carried herself with stately dignity, as a "Lady" and was affectionately called Baba Manya by all. The family sincerely appreciates the care and affection shown to her by all staff and especially Lydia, Debby, Darlene and Nada of the Sharon Home second floor. No words can completely express our thanks to our mothers companion and friend, Paula Shnayderman, for the love, concern and devotion with which she surrounded Baba Manya for her last eight years. After living in three centuries, the family thought she would be with us forever, but certainly, the memories we shared with her will stay in the hearts of the generations that survive her; children, Reva and Lewis Freedland, Sema Shore, Razie Brownstone and Peril and Gerry Daien; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Services were conducted by Rabbi Neal Rose and Cantor Gerry Daien, her son-in-law, at the Chesed Shel Emes chapel on May 14. A tribute to their Baba Manya from her grandchildren was presented by Rachelle Koffman. Pallbearers were grandsons Arni Brownstone, Keir Brownstone, David Daien, Jay Freedland, Coleman Green and Joshua Koffman. Honorary pallbearers were Gerry Arron, Lewis Freedland, Gerry Koffman, Leon Shnayderman and Grant Zipursky. May her memory be a blessing for us all and may she rest in peace. Amen.
