SHIRLEY GAETA It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother on Tuesday, May 23, 2000. Shirley will be dearly missed by her four children, David (Joan), Diane (John), Margaret, Leslie (Brad) grandchildren, Lindsay, Darren, Laura, Kayla, Amber and other extended family members. She was predeceased by her loving husband Ralph in 1995 and her sister Bette in 1999. Shirley was born December 9, 1922 in Los Angeles, California and moved to Virden, Man. at the age of three, where she was raised until moving to Winnipeg. She was married in November, 1942 and spent the next three years waiting for Ralph to come home from the war. Shirley took great pride in her job as homemaker in providing a loving and safe home for her family. She especially loved to garden and had a great affection for animals. There was always an array of dogs, cats, birds and turtles to care for. Shirley loved hockey and the Montreal Canadiens. We all knew never to bother her when a game was on T.V. She especially enjoyed the games she was able to attend at the Winnipeg Arena. Shirley and Ralph always enjoyed going out dancing at one of their favourite clubs on Saturday nights. In April of this year, Shirley was diagnosed with cancer. She valiantly fought this tragic disease but was unable to win the battle. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff on the third floor of the Victoria General Hospital, including thanks to Dr. Smith and Shelley for their concern and care. Special thanks to Pastor Larry Hirst for his spiritual support. Cremation and a private family service was held on Thursday, May 25 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., interment at Brookside Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
