WALTER KENNETH GINGERA It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Walter Gingera. Walter passed away peacefully at home in Dauphin, Man. on May 10, 2000 after a short, courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 56 years. Walter was born on September 26, 1943 at home in Mafeking, Man. to Peter and Stella Gingera (nee Urbanowski). After finishing school, he moved to Flin Flon, Man. where he was employed by Hudson Bay Mining Company. It was there that he met Sharon George and they were married in 1965. Together they raised three children. Walter received his journeyman electrical license while working with Sherritt Gordon Mines in Lynn Lake, Man. in 1969. He moved with his family to Kitimat, B.C. for a short period of time then later to Ardrosan, Alta. where he settled to raise his family. However, years later, the call of a simpler life led him and family to Dauphin where they bought land and built a homestead they were very proud of. In 1987 Walter returned to Keewatin Community College in The Pas, Man. as an electrical instructor and later at Keewatin Community College to present in Thompson. Walter will be greatly remembered by family and friends for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humour. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Stella Gingera; father-in-law Gerald George; brother-in-law Vince Duncalfe and niece Marcy Novasad. Left to cherish his memory is his loving family; wife Sharon of 34 years; son Kenneth, wife Anita (Van Den Heuvel), granddaughter Emma of Winnipeg; daughter Sandra, husband Brian Barber and grandsons, Nicolas and Joshua of Grande Prairie, Alta.; daughter Lee-Ann, husband Barry Harrison and grandson Brennan of Winnipeg; one brother Carl (Marlene) Gingera of Snow Lake; four sisters, Anne (Wally) Novasad of St. Thomas, Ont., Pat (Sam) Mushie of Brandon; Sally Duncalfe of The Pas; Mary (Jerry) Ernest of Thompson; mother-in-law Sadie George of Dauphin; brother-in-law Sheldon (Judy) George of The Pas; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral service was held on May 15 at St. Viators Roman Catholic Church in Dauphin. Father Mark A. Tarrant officiated and interment followed at the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Allan Armstrong, Tom Gibbs, Murray Oman, Sandy Kiss, Gerald Mushie and Ross Gingera. In advance, the family of Walter would like to sincerely thank everyone for their support and caring. Walter would feel very honoured. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
