Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONA (LENA) (MANDY) HELEN REMENDA It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lena Remenda at the Grace General Hospital on Saturday, May 27, 2000 after a short but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 72 years. Left to cherish her memory is her son Gary Remenda, brother Kenneth Ciunyk (Kathy Rudenko-Ciunyk), sister Gloria Ciunyk, stepbrother Billy Remenda (Darlene), Bobby Remenda (Alicia), sister-in-law Audrey Remenda (Wayne), aunts Tillie Banka, Ann Bodnar, Sylvia Piecowye and one uncle Elie Piecowye, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lena was born in Viscount, SK. She came to Winnipeg with her mother Ella and stepdad Harry Ciunyk and got a job at the Grace Hospital working as a nurses aide, looking after the elderly with great pride for 35 years until her retirement. She loved to collect recipes and going to the cottage. She loved her cat Snoopy for 16 years, but when he got sick and had to be put down she was very heartbroken. The last year of her life, she enjoyed Bingo and playing cards everyday with her friends she made in the apartment. She was determined to overcome her trials with her health, always with a sense of humour (never taking her health seriously). She was always helpful to others no matter what. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Lena was predeceased by her parents, Ella Ciunyk (Meacham, SK), Harry Ciunyk (Arran, SK), and her father Dmytro Remenda (Vonda, SK), brothers Lawrence Remenda, Gerry Ciunyk, and sister Bernice Remenda. Prayers will be sung on Thursday, June 1 at 8:30 p.m. at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. and Stella Avenue. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. also at the Cathedral with Rev. Fr. Michael Kouts officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Family Cemetery. "A Mother" A son can hardly know or guess the love his mother cant express With thoughts she seldom said a loud, her heart is warm her feelings proud He does not fully understand her wisdom and her guiding hand, He does know each helpful word holds love unspoken, hope unheard. Yet as the busy years roll past, he comes to understand at last The worries and the fears she knew the problem times she pulled him through He finally learns, the full extent of what a mothers love has meant And realizes how great its been to have a mother for a friend.
