Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOUISE (LOUIE) TOWN (nee BATCHELOR) "NAN" September 30, 1900 - May 26, 2000 On May 26, 2000, at the age of 99, our beloved matriarch, Louise Town, unexpectedly departed for her final rest from Leamington Hospital, Ontario. Born in Kent County, England, she was one of six children. Our mom came to Canada on April 1, 1912 as one of Dr. Barnardos Home Children. Making her way from Ontario to Brandon and settling in Winnipeg, she met and married Robert Town. Her beloved Robert predeceased her in 1947. Together they nurtured ten children. Regrettably, they were predeceased by their second child, Peggy, in 1923. Mom worked at various laundries and nursing homes until a near fatal car accident in March, 1956 urged her to retire. Her attention then turned full time to her family. She ensured the unity of her ever-growing family by always having them close. Nans family grew to include 32 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was predeceased by grandson Steve in 1984 and great-granddaughter Jillian earlier this year. Mom remained very active throughout her life. She was a very proud member of The Eastern Star, Queen Winnipeg Chapter. She belonged to The Royal Canadian Legion where she received her lifetime membership. In addition, she participated in both the Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed the dart league. Mom was an avid bowler, inspiring many of us to the sport. She held the honour of being the oldest bowler on her leagues by bowling into her 97th year. Mom enjoyed attending family gatherings, reading Harlequins and knitting mittens and scarves. She especially loved to travel and continued her love of the outdoors by camping well into this year. Her family and many others flourished with her guidance. The families of Kay & John, Leamington, Ont., Robert & May, Winnipeg, Tom & Grace, Grand Point, Man., Grace & Gus, Winnipeg, Gladys, Winnipeg, Vi, Winnipeg, George & Joyce, Courtenay, B.C., Mert & Bob, Harrow, Ont., Marlynn & Tony, Stuartburn, Man., along with numerous friends and relatives are deeply saddened by her unexpected departure and will love and miss her eternally. We will gather to remember and celebrate her life on Thursday, June 1 at 2:30 p.m., upstairs in The Royal Canadian Legion, Fort Garry Branch No. 90, 1125 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg.
