WILLIAM ALEXANDER ARMSTRONG Suddenly on May 28, 2000 in the company of good friends, William Armstrong passed away. Bill was born in Belfast, Ireland, August 4, 1911. He came to Winnipeg as a child, where he remained as a proud resident for the rest of his life. He was predeceased by Frances, his wife of 54 years; his brother Tommy and sister Lila. He is survived by his son Brian of Toronto; daughter Judy and husband Terry Lang of Winnipeg; three grandchildren, Kim and husband Frank Inouye of Dorking, England, Shelley and husband John Danko of Winnipeg, Kevin Lang and wife Tanya of Winnipeg and five great-grandchildren, Connor, Taylor and Mackenzi Inouye of Dorking, and Cameron and Fiona Lang of Winnipeg. Also special friend Sherrie Shellenberg. Bill was employed for over 50 years by the Canadian National Railway, retiring as First Aid Supervisor. During his years with Canadian National, he was very active with St. John Ambulance, this included many television appearances on their behalf. His service as a St. John volunteer was recognized by the presentation of OFFICER BROTHER status in the ORDER OF ST. JOHN OF JERUSALEM by the Governor General, Vanier, of Canada. Bill had a life long passion for music. He had a fine tenor voice and in recent years was involved in a quartet and choir. He will also be remembered by many as both Santa and Father Christmas at the Forks Market and Childrens Museum. Bill led a full and active life. A Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 6 at the River East Mennonite Brethren Church, 755 McLeod Ave., East Kildonan at 2:00 p.m. Should family and friends so desire, donations may be made in Bills memory to The Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation of Manitoba.
