ANDREE el-GUEBALY (nee DUTHY) Mrs. Andree el-Guebaly was born on April 29, 1914 in Macon in Frances Burgundy region. She grew up in Macon then pursued her studies in pharmacy at Lyon University where she met her future husband Ahmed el-Guebaly, then a medical student. They returned to Egypt in 1939 and had two sons, Nady and Samy. She led an active life in Egypt despite the societal turmoils of the time. Dr. A. el-Guebaly rose to become Egypts Senior Secretary of State for Health. Together, they taught us tolerance and an insatiable inquisitiveness about the world. Upon his retirement, they moved to Canada to be near their children first in Toronto in 1977 and later Winnipeg in 1981. That year, she became a widow and lived in Winnipeg ever since. She is survived by her loving sons, Nady, a Psychiatrist from Calgary and Samy, a Engineer from Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter-in-law Joan; her four grandchildren, Jana, Lani, Jenny and Steven; her cousins in France, Gilbert Echallon and Monique Laude and their family and a few good friends. Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 5:00 p.m. in the St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church, 1007 St. Marys Road with Fr. Eugene Chaput Presiding. Interment will take place in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street. If friends so desire, donations in Andrees name may be made to the Foundation of the Canadian Psychiatrist Association, 260 441 MacLaren, Ottawa, Ontario, K2P 2H3.
