DONALD JAMES HOGABOAM Don passed away peacefully in the Grace General Hospital on June 3, 2000, surrounded by his loving family and special friend Margaret Scott. Don was predeceased by his wife Eunice in 1969 and his daughter Dorothy in 1989. Left to mourn his passing are his two daughters, Joy (Ken Bradley) of Toronto, Mavis (Lyle Willey) of Vernon, B.C. and two sons, Wayne (Linda) and Duncan (Patricia) of Winnipeg. Also left to mourn are 15 grandchildren, Jim, Ronald, Sandy, Kathyrn, Curtis, Derek, Dean, Janice, Lauren, Mavis, Sandra, Penny, Jay, Scott and Lisa; 18 great-grandchildren, Stefan, Nicholas, Chelsea, Alex, Travis, Brittany, Amanda, Michelle, Nicole, Veronica, Adrienne, Colin, Sheila, Danielle, Jaye, Dana, Micaela and Gabrielle. Don was born in Houghton, Michigan, U.S.A. in 1910 and his family moved to Leross, Sask. in 1919. He married Eunice Link in 1930 and moved to Flin Flon, Man. in 1933 where they raised their family. Don worked for Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting for 40 years retiring from the smelter in 1972, when he moved to Winnipeg. During his time in Flin Flon, he was an active member of the local sporting fraternity. He was a past president of the Flin Flon Minor Hockey League, an avid golfer and curler and was a past member of the Deer Lodge Curling Club. He also loved to hunt and fish and was an ardent bridge and cribbage player. He was a life member of the Flin Flon Community Club and the I.O.O.F. He was fond of travelling and took advantage of every opportunity to visit other countries. Don lived his life with dignity and humility. His ready smile and friendly manner when dealing with all he met were a signature of his life. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Avenue. Interment will follow in Kelliher, Sask. The family extends special thanks for the time and care provided by the third floor North staff at Grace General Hospital and a very special thanks to Dr. Gooi.
