ELSIE PEARL SLATER (McMAHON) Elsie Pearl Slater (McMahon), aged 77 years, passed away on May 31, 2000 at home in Teulon, Man. Elsie was born in Teulon, the third of ten children born to Eldon and Polly McMahon. Elsie attended school in Teulon and continued to live and work here throughout her life. During the Second World War, Elsie worked as a nurses aid at Hunter Hospital. She married Arnold Slater of Teulon in 1942 while he was on embarkation leave. After his return from overseas in 1946, Arnold and Elsie began their life together in Teulon. In 1956, they celebrated the birth of their son Dennis. Elsie was known in Teulon for her community involvement. Active in the Legion and Hospital Auxiliaries, she gave her time generously. In recent years, Elsie was part of Teulons Seniors Groups and was an enthusiastic card player. On Easter Sunday, 2000 she joyously welcomed the birth of her first grandchild, Stephen. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Arnold and son Peter. She is survived by her son Dennis (Marcia) and grandson Stephen (Alec) brothers, Jim McMahon (Audrey), Fred McMahon (Elsie), Elmer McMahon, Wally McMahon (Marilyn), Herb McMahon (Marion), Cliff McMahon (Patti) and sister Jean Holloway (Bob) and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held on Monday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Teulon United Church. Rev. Barbara Bryant-Anstie officiated and interment followed in the Windsor Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care at the Hunter Memorial Hospital, Teulon. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of the arrangements.
