Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHONOURARY COLONEL GEORGE WILLIAM (BILL) (RED) GARNETT CD A Gentle Man and A Gentleman Passed away on June 8th, 2000 at Grace Hospital. Bill was predeceased in 1995 by Irene, his wife of 54 years and in 1996 by his son Ron. He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Louise (Fraser) and his family. Born in Winnipeg December 19, 1920 to George and Minnie Garnett, Bill attended Cecil Rhodes and DMCI. In 1940 Bill married his high school sweetheart Irene Lawrie in Kingston, Ontario. Between them they raised a wonderful family - Lawrie (Mary), Ron (Laureen) and Alison Bailes. Bill and Irene also have seven grandchildren, Bob (Andrea), Michael (Heather), Christina, Sandie, Karen (Phil and great-grandson Aidan), Cameron and Michelle. Bill served with the Armed Forces from September 1935 until retirement in 1970. His service in the Armed Forces saw him in 10 District Signals; as a signaller Instructor in the P.P.C.L.I.; as a Signal Officer with Infantry, Artillery and Lord Strathcona Horse; in SCAD and in various postings in Canada, Korea, UK and the Middle East. His most recent military duties were as Honourary Colonel of 735 Communications Regiment in Winnipeg. After retirement from the military he was Executive Director of the Alumni Association, University of Manitoba from 1970-1982 and was made an honourary life member in recognition of his service to the University. Bill and his family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Pat Harris and to all the staff involved in his care at the Grace Hospital as well as to Louise D. of the VON. Dad was a wonderful husband, a terrific Father and Grandfather and a good friend. He was known for his wicked sense of humour. He was a man of integrity who will be missed by all who knew him. Honourary pallbearers are Jack Dean, Ken Langridge, Rob McIntosh, Kevin Davis, Bob Murphy and Mike Zawislak. In lieu of flowers, Dad would wish donations be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, the Alzheimers Society, the CNIB, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
