Josie was a truly devoted wife, mother, daughter, gramma, aunty, cousin and friend. She is sadly missed by her loving husband Brian; her devoted children, Cheryl and Ray Berendse of Gillam, MB, Gerry and Deborah Rogers of Telkwa, BC, Craig Rogers and Sandra Gerhart of Winnipeg; her stepchildren, David and Linda Cove, James and Sheila Cove, Donald Cove and Margaret Holmes all of Winnipeg, Cathy and Ken Zubricki of Kanata, ON; her precious grandchildren, Maverick, Chelsey, Samantha, Nicole, Graham, Natasha, Alaina, Cameron, Brady, Andrea and Bennett; her dear mother Bertha Hooper and mother-in-law Marion Rogers; sister Aleida (Bernie) Woycheshen and brother Bryan (Cathy) Hooper; many nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends. Mom was an eternal optimist with a genuine interest in all people. She made friends wherever she went because of her generous spirit. She was a natural at listening and helping people sort out their problems. Josie was born in Winnipeg on March 12, 1941. She grew up in Elmwood and graduated from Lord Selkirk High School. There mom met her high school friends, Marlene, Mickey, Marianne and Sharon, with whom she remains friends with today. Josie attended "canteens" regularly with friends and cousins and here she met Barry Rogers. They married in 1960 and enjoyed a busy life raising three children. Josie focused on her family and worked very hard at teaching good values. Josie worked at the old Concordia Hospital and Freshwater Fish Plant. After Barry died, Josie worked at the Transcona Springfield School Division office until she retired. Josie was a committed member of Confidence Rebekah Lodge #40, of which she was past Noble Grand. Josie met a special "friend" Brian whose slippers found a home at moms. Mom and Brian shared a happy retirement travelling many places. Their travels in the winter took them south and they enjoyed summers spent at the Rogers family cottage at Rice Lake "the lake" and the Cove family cottage at Matlock. Moms very special times were those with her grandchildren, family and good friends at the lake. Blueberries, pie baking, walks, swimming, stories, camp fires were all Grammas specialties. She will be forever with all of us and especially at the lake which was dear to her heart.
