Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED JAMES SMITH Suddenly on Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at the Thompson General Hospital, Mr. Alfred James Smith, aged 47 years, beloved husband of Linda Smith of Cross Lake, Man. Wake services were held on Wednesday and Thursday, June 7th and 8th at the Fellowship Church in Cross Lake. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Cross Lake United Church with Revs. Sam Ross and Archie McKay officiating. Cremation followed and the cremains were interred in the Cross Lake Cemetery. Alfred James Smith, second oldest son of Clarence and Lillian; beloved husband of Linda; proud father of Joppe (Toute), Dean (Laverne, Chad), Deana, Valinda and Twila; grandfather of Cassie (Grandpas little girl) brother of Glenn, Dennis (deceased), Roy (Judy), Marilyn (Joey), Kay (Ron), Vivian (Alex), Irvin, Warren (Lydia), brother-in-law Floyd (Phyllis) sisters-in-law, Ila (Robert) and Mona (Rob) mother-in-law Lee; uncle of Jason (Muriel), Blaine, Karissa, Kristen, Debbie, Daryll, Virginia, Wayne, Charmaine, Shawna, Kris, Avis, Vaughn (Jenette), Tina, Danette, Jaylene, Jessica, Dennis, Kevin (Bev, Brooklyn), Gordon (Nancy), Sherri (Dave, Michelle), Derek (Jodi), Regan, Naomi, Robert, Glenn, Shane, Lloyd, and Kayla, cousin and friend to Jimmy, Iona, Sam, Lorna M., Archie, Tommy, Dwayne, Darlene, Lorna S., Doug and many more close friends. Alfred was called to the Lord at 4:06 a.m. on June 6, 2000. Alfred was born in Oxford House, Man., April 20, 1952. He was raised in Sandy Lake, Ont. for nine and a half years, then Oxford House (1960-1967) and finally came to Cross Lake in January 1967. He completed high school in Cranberry Portage where he made many friends and become known as the Big 6. He spent his summers working in Thompson and Leaf Rapids. He shared chores, the out-of-doors and many great shenanigans with brothers, sisters and friends. He met his wife Linda in the middle of the river in the fall of 1974. After a two year courtship they were wed and created five beautiful children. Alfred loved the outdoors and worked hard to instill a strong work ethic in his family as well as a love of life, family and friends. He served his community as a school committee member for eight years and councillor for three years. He loved to terrorize the Northern store and Council Office staff when he could, he faithfully removed their garbage for the last 19 years. He travelled many miles with his children on Minor Hockey trips. Alfred was predeceased by his grandparents, Willie and Jean Smith, Alfred and Emily Bell; brother Dennis; life-long friends, Joppee, Duncan (Cho-ni-kan), Uncle Donald (Looloots), Uncle Angus; father-in-law Lloyd Miller and great-nephew Dalton.
