FRANCES SMERCHANSKI (nee WALKIN) On Thursday, June 15th, Frances Smerchanski passed away very peacefully in her home. Mom was born on May 25, 1917 in Fraserwood, Man., and had just celebrated her 83rd birthday. She was predeceased by her husband John Seitz who passed away on September 25, 1956, her daughter Barbara Jaman who passed away on June 20, 1998 and her brother Melvin Walkin. She is survived by her son Jack Seitz and her daughter-in-law Cathy, as well as her favorite pups, Angel, Snoopy-Belle, Daisy, Donald, Lady and her little bird Freddie, who will love and remember her forever. Mom is remembered with love by her sisters Nettie Ohlman, Elsie Felbel, Mary Farrell, Ann Whitehouse, her brother Walter Walkin and her son-in-law Billy Jaman. As well she will be remembered by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a wealth of friends. Mom grew up in Fraserwood where she worked on the family farm. She moved to Transcona where she met and married John Seitz in 1945. She remained there for many years before moving to a country farm in Hadashville. There Mom enjoyed the pleasures of her life looking after all kinds of animals. She had numerous pets and always had room for one more. Her special little Yorkie "Buster" passed away in her arms in 1996. Mom loved all Gods creatures and they loved her. Mom was a loving and caring person, every time you went out to the country to visit her she always made certain that you left there packed with all kinds of food, preserves or vegetables or anything she had. She loved to cook, garden and preserve and was an excellent seamstress. She prided herself in making drapes for all kinds of people. She enjoyed the freedom of the country and enjoyed spending her latter years in Beausejour in the company of her special friend Allan Shurtliffe. Al was a considerate and helpful companion to her at all times. Mom always enjoyed going over to visit her daughter Barbara and never really got over her passing two years ago, but Mom is with Barbara, Buster and all of her many friends and family now. Well miss you Mom and will never forget you. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 20th at 1:30 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Home, 1800 Day St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
