Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) McKENZIE LONGBOTTOM It is with great sadness that we announce that on June 16, 2000 in his home with his wife and family at his side, the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and poppa, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by; his best friend and wife Mabel, they enjoyed many happy and fulfilling years; his daughters, Shelly (Bob), Nadine (Les), Angela (Steve) his stepchildren, Gloria (George), Michael (Dolly) grandchildren, Ryan, Jamey, Steven, Sarah, Jeffrey; extended family, Kenny Jr., Kevin, Cyndi, Cam, Cherylynn, Lesley, Dan and their spouses and children. He is also survived by his brothers, George (Scotty), Alex (Laverne), Eddie (Doods) Sister Margaret (Ernie) and also many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Jim was predeceased by his father George, mother Christine and infant sister Alice Lillian. Jim was born at the family homestead at the mouth of the Brokenhead River on Lake Winnipeg. He left school at age 13 to work in the bush camps in Pine Falls then later went to work on the ships on the Great Lakes. In the 1950s, Jim earned his electrical apprenticeship at Westinghouse in Winnipeg. In later years he was employed at Selkirk Outreach as Project Coordinater and in 1995 took early retirement. Jim loved life and lived it to its fullest. He was an incredibly generous person with a wonderful sense of humour and a heart of gold. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, travelling, hunting and snowmobiling. Jims colourful storytelling and infectious laughter would entertain his family and friends for hours. He was well known for inventing appropriate nicknames for all he knew. Jim and Mabel spent many treasured years camping, travelling, visiting family and friends and sitting in their boat enjoying the scenery and each others company. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20 at 3:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home. Viewing will take place at 2:30 p.m. Cremation to follow the service with interment of ashes to be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the many family and friends for their help and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Selkirk General Hospital Palliative Care.
