Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR W. BATER May 16, 1925 - June 17, 2000 Peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2000, Arthur W. Bater passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit. Art is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Florence; his children, Brian Bater (Barbara), Beverly Darker (Darwin), Brenda McNeill (Grant) six grandchildren, Donald, Debbie (Stewart), Chris, Jared, Shannon and Sandra, and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Bradley. He will be sadly missed by dear friends, Don and Betty Edgar and his aunt Philica Bater. He was predeceased by his parents George and Alice Bater and sister Joyce Esperson. Art was born in Toronto and then moved to Winnipeg at age four. He joined the army as a young soldier in May, 1943 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers until 1946. Art met his loving wife Florence in 1944 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The two love birds were married on June 6, 1945. After the army Art worked for H.R. Eade as an Assessor for two years, then worked for the City of Winnipeg Assessment Department in 1955. Art worked for the city for 30 years. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at Victoria Hospital and Riverview Health Care Centre. Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, June 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthurs memory to the Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Care, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, Man., R3L 2P4.
