Irene will be deeply missed by her four children, Betty Harrison (Don), Jack (Joan), Ronald (Cindy) all of Calgary and Gordon (Janet) of Winnipeg; her grandchildren, sister-in-law Muriel Carter and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by Lou, her loving husband of 49 years; her brothers Bill Carter and Sid Carter; her sisters Eva Dagg, Bertha Richards and Dorothy Burton. Irene was born on October 6, 1922, the youngest of six children and grew up on a farm near Bethany, Man. They were married in November, 1943 and were posted to various locations across the country. In the next 30 years Lous job with the Royal Bank took them to a number of rural Manitoba communities including Erikson, Rivers, Newdale, Roblin, Russell and Beausejour. In 1973 Irene and Lou settled in Winnipeg where they spent their retirement years. Irene was a devoted mother to her children and she had a special place in her heart for her five grandchildren, Colin, Byron, Samantha, Graham and Lana. Irene loved dancing, Big Band Music and playing the piano. Besides being an avid baseball fan, she also enjoyed curling, golf and bowling, as well as playing bridge and other card games. The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Maharaj and the wonderful staff at Oakview Extendicare for their loving care and support.
