KATHARINA MARIA HUBERTINA SWART (nee GALLUS) June 18, 1928 - June 17, 2000 In her 72nd year, at 2:15 a.m. on June 17, 2000 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg. God put his arms around our beloved Mother, Oma, and Tante to free her from her suffering and take her to his eternal home. At last the suffering is over and she is at peace, reunited once more with her husband Adrian (Pap), who predeceased her in 1988. Katharina was also predeceased by her parents Jacob and Anna (nee Nohr) from Gustorf, Germany. She is survived by: daughter Annie and her husband Marvin Matusiak and children Zenon, Nicholas and Stephen of Whitby, Ont.; sons, Paul and his wife Terry and children Adrienne and Philip of Winnipeg; John and his wife Shirley and children Darcy, Brienna and Erika of Minto, Man.; Edward and his wife Denise and children Matthew and Hollie of Winnipeg; brother Peter Joseph Gallus and his wife Agnes, their son Gerd and his wife Daniella and children Vivienne and Adrian, and her aunt Maria Nohr from Germany. Also many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews from Holland, California and Canada. Katharina was born in Gustorf, Germany. She came to Winnipeg by ship and rail with children Annie, Paul, and expectant son John to join her husband, who had flown to Canada earlier to prepare for their new home in Winnipeg, in June of 1954. The new life they sought was not without hardships, but they forged on to provide a better life for their four children. We appreciate every sacrifice made for us and will cherish their selflessness, love, and devotion to our families and us forever. YOU ARE LOVED AND WILL BE FOREVER MISSED. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. at John XXIII Parish, 3390 Portage Ave. The celebration and Remembrance Mass of Katharinas life will be held on Wednesday, June 21, at 11:00 a.m. also in the church, Msgr. McCloskey presiding. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens at 4000 Portage Ave. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital and Deer Lodge for their compassion and personal attention. A heartfelt thank you to Msgr. Chartrand, who brought gifts of prayer and strength to Katharina and her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to your charity of choice.
