MARGARET COWGILL (nee GAMBLE) Margaret Emily Cowgill, formerly of North Battleford Sask., passed away peacefully in St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB on June 20, 2000. She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by her only daughter and son-in-law Doreen and Clay Wotherspoon; her grandchildren and spouses Laureen (Ken), Kent (Jacquie), Scott (Pam), and Michelle (Tom) ten wonderful great-grandchildren; and brothers and sister Bert (Mary), Lorne (Ruth), Arnold (Pat), Don (Marj), and Bernice (Ted) brother-in-law; nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret is predeceased by her husband Leo, whom she loved dearly and faithfully and her sister Jeanette Miller, mother and father, Marie and Walter Gamble of Moose Jaw, Sask. Margaret was born on the family farm in Moose Jaw, Sask., on January 25, 1914. She obtained her Teachers Certificate and for a few years taught in rural Moose Jaw. In July, 1936 she married Leo Cowgill and joined him in managing various grocery and hardware stores in Saskatchewan. In the early 40s, they purchased a Red and White Grocery Store with connecting residence in North Battleford, which they managed for many years. Mom was a quiet, dignified, loving, unselfish person whose greatest enjoyment was family and friends. She loved her cabin at Meota, Sask., family reunions; and giving loving care to her plants. She always had a kind word for everyone. Margaret spent a number of her retirement years in North Battleford before processes of aging and the desire to be near her daughter and family, led to her move to Catherine Place in Winnipeg, in August 1998. In her last couple of years cancer of the liver played a role in her health condition and she was hospitalized on May 30, 2000 due to a stroke. Margaret was a regular attender and faithful worker at St. Pauls Anglican Church in North Battleford. In Winnipeg she enjoyed the pastoral services of Rev. Susan Tough of Norwood United Church where her daughter and husband attend. Over the years she had been active in various other organizations. Mom is now at peace. We give thanks to God for this, for the many great years we had together, and for being our Mom, Grandma and friend. Thanks to Dr. L. Ebbeling-Treon ( a super caring Dr.) staff on 6A and Palliative Care St. Boniface Hospital, where she received excellent care and compassion; to Rev. Susan Tough, Norwood United Church minister; management and support staff at Catherine Place; Desjardins Funeral Chapel of Winnipeg in conjunction with Sallows and McDonald Funeral Home of North Battleford; Rev. Ron Baerg of St. Pauls Anglican Church, North Battleford; the North Battleford Anglican Church womens group; and everyone who assisted and supported us. Memorial services will be held at Catherine Place, 190 Raymond Place, Winnipeg on Monday, June 26 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Susan Tough officiating. Funeral services will be held at St. Pauls Anglican Church, North Battleford, Sask., at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday June 29. Rev. Ron Baerg will conduct services and interment to follow at North Battleford City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cancer Society in memory of Margaret. Sallows and McDonald Funeral Home of North Battleford in care of arrangements.
