JEAN BAKER (nee BROUGHTON) It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Jean Baker, aged 79 years, on Friday, June 16 at Grace Hospital. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Clara and Joe Broughton, and her brother, Arthur. Mom will be forever loved and missed by her husband of 58 years, Jim; son Arthur (Lorraine) daughter Jody MacKinnon (Bob) sister Helen Tracy (Al) brother Bill; brother Doug (Sandra) grandchildren, Dawn Tubicz (John), Jamey Baker (April), Chris and Kevin MacKinnon; great-grandson Drew James Baker; several nieces and nephews; many close friends and neighbours and especially Mitzie! This past year has been a particularly difficult one for Jean, but through it all she managed to maintain her dignity, sense of humour, and an optimistic outlook with each new challenge. Moms greatest joy was to be able to spend time with her family. She devoted her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family and friends. She also enjoyed several hobbies including gardening, the house plants in her sun room, crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing cards and her yearly trips to Tomahawk Lodge on Blackduck Lake in Minnesota where she even managed to catch a few fish! The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the compassionate care givers at Grace Hospital on the 3rd floor and especially in the observation unit and on five north. Your support and consideration to Jean and her family through this trying time were greatly appreciated, as were all the hugs! Thanks also to the hospital doctors and to Dr. Heather Frame for her many years of caring for mom. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if family and friends so wish, a donation may be made in Jeans memory to either The Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, R3J 3M7, or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, R3C 0S6. In keeping with Jeans wish, a private family service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Friends and neighbours are invited to drop in to the Baker home for a "come and go" on Thursday, June 22 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. "Grief never ends, but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. The sense of loss must give way if we are to value the life that was lived." Rest well mom...we love you.
