FREDRICK HOLTSLAG The family, with great sadness, announce the peaceful passing on June 18, 2000, of Fredrick Holtslag, at Carman Memorial Hospital at age 85. Born in Oakbank, Manitoba, on March 16, 1915, he is predeceased by his parents, John Wm. Holtslag and Helena (de Graaf) Holtslag; his loving wife Marjorie; his eldest son William Allen; brothers, Gerhard and John; sisters, Janie and Greta. Fred will live on in the loving memories of his daughter Donalda Johnson, husband Wayne and son Kelly; his son Frederick David, wife Marianne, children Heather, Michael and Erin; grandsons, Quinn and Dustin Holtslag; brother William (Van) and sister Helena Macdonald, plus numerous relatives and friends. Raised in Carman, MB, Fred and his brother Van operated the Holtslag Bros. Service Station there for many years. Unable to fight in the war because of previous head injury, he served in the local Reserve, the Carman Volunteer Firefighters and was a 50-year member of the Carman Legion. Following the sale of the Service Station he worked until retirement with the Manitoba Department of Highways. He drew great pleasure from hunting and fishing with friends and family, his large garden, and the family cottage at Delta Beach. He and Marjorie enjoyed travelling and visiting their family. According to Freds wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Doyles Funeral Home in Carman on Thursday, June 22, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Larstone officiating, followed by a reception at the Legion Hall. Interment will be in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Carman Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion over the past seven months.
