DOUGLAS "SCOTTY" ROBBIE 1928 - 2000 With deepest sorrow we, the Robbie family, announce the sudden passing of our dearly beloved husband, father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are Margaret - his devoted wife of 48 years; four daughters, Linda (Jim), Brenda (Frank), Sandy (Randy) and "special daughter Frances; six grandchildren (his pride and joy), Scott, Nicole, Brittany, Tiffany, Lauren and Alex. Also six sisters and other relatives in Scotland. Doug was predeceased by his brother Bill. Born in a small stone cottage in rural Aberdeen, Doug never lost his accent or love of his Scottish heritage, especially the bag-pipes. He served his country in the British Merchant Navy, also in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and The Royal Scotts Regiment. Doug arrived in Canada in 1953 with $21.00 in his pocket and determination to work and provide for his family. Always his priority was, "his family". Doug worked as a switchman at the C.P.R. and as an autobody man for many years in various city garages, mainly Eastern Sales. A West Kildonan resident since 1956 he was a longtime proud member of Legion No. 30, Masonic Lodge (Tuscan), Forresters and I.W.V.A. An avid outdoorsman, Doug enjoyed many hunting, fishing and snowmobile trips, also driving his motor home across Canada, and his cottage at Gimli. He was able to fix almost anything. He was a great story-teller. Despite being house bound by respiratory disease, Doug never lost his cheery smile, independent nature and sense of humour. He will be much missed. Thank you to all who cared for, and about his during these difficult shut-in years especially his friend Alvin. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Ave. Interment to follow in Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery. The mountain was too hard to climb, The slopes became too steep, So He put His arms around you and whispered, "Go to sleep" Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements; 586-8044.
