Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY AHERNE March 24, 1914 June 19, 2000 Peacefully, after a brief illness, Mary Aherne passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mary is survived by her beloved daughters, Phyllis (Alex) Stadnyk, Joyce (Curt) Francis; grandchildren, Brian (Annette), Glen, Michael, Paul (Dana), Timothy (Elizabeth), Mary Joy "Minka"; great grandchildren, Garret, Mackenzie, Paul Daniel, Christa Marie, Johnathan Andrew, Michael David and H.B. Mary loved her family above and beyond. Her generosity and willingness to listen was always appreciated. She resided in the East Kildonan area for approximately 55 years until she decided she was ready for a change. She spent her last years at Lions Manor where she found a new zest for life with the beautiful friendships she developed, activities and volunteer work. She was fondly nicknamed the "Lion Queen" by her family. The family would like to thank all the staff of the GH4 at the Health Sciences Centre, especially nurses Olga, Joanne, and Nicole who tenderly helped Mary and her family through her final journey. As well, many thanks to the staff of Lions Manor. Pallbearers will be Alex Stadnyk, Brian Harman, Michael Harmon, David Robertson, Michael Robertson, and Curt Storch. Honourary pallbearers are Glen Harman, Paul Harmon, Timothy Harmon, John Melnick, Sr., John Acthim, Jim James, Al Sawatzky, Alf Robertson. A celebration of Marys life will be held on Thursday June 22 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with Reverend Father Frank Conway officiating. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marys memory to S.P.I.K.E., P.O. Box 28029, 1453 Henderson Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2G 4E9. Well all miss you deeply "Mom", "Granma", "Nana", "Minka", but we know well meet again and share a cup of tea and the best shortbread heaven has ever known.
