MARIA CANTAFIO On Tuesday, June 20, 2000, Maria Cantafio was peacefully embraced in the loving hands of our Lord. Her memory will be cherished by her loving family: children, Catherine (Murray) Morello of Toronto, Frank (Fiona) Cantafio of Calgary and Serafina (Franco) Cianflone. Maria was blessed with loving grandchildren, Joseph (Jo-Anne), Patrick and fiancee Patricia, Michelle and fiance Sean, Steven, Miles, Leanne, Dean, Jason and fiancee Anna and Francine; two great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Damian. She will be sadly missed by her two brothers, Gaetano (Margherita) Donato of Edmonton and Raffaele Donato; and many nieces and nephews. Maria was born in Amato, Catanzaro, Italy on April 11, 1917. She married her soulmate, Pasquale, in Amato on May 14, 1938. In 1952 they immigrated to Winnipeg with two of her children, Catherine and Frank. In Winnipeg, Maria and Pasquale were blessed with their third child Serafina. For 15 years she was employed with the Park Manor Nursing Home. Maria gave of herself totally and unconditionally. Her faith-filled, prayerful life and concern for her own and extended family were central to her being. She experienced much joy in visiting the grandchildren in Toronto and Calgary over the years. Two religious pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Fatima were blessings that she would relive throughout her lifetime. The community will gather in prayer on Friday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 24 at 10:00 a.m., also in the Church, with Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding at the Eucharist. Interment will take place on Monday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. in Transcona Cemetery on Dugald Road near the Perimeter Highway. Pallbearers for the funeral will be Flavio Cianflone, Jason Cianflone, Gaetano Loscerbo, Miles Cantafio, Joseph Donato, Steven Morello, and Patrick Morello.
