JOAN E. TURNBULL (nee SELLERS) It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Joan Turnbull, aged 68 years, at St. Boniface General Hospital, after a lengthy illness. Joan was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Monica Sellers, as well as her brother-in-law Ted Dalgleish. Mom will be forever loved and sadly missed by her husband of 43 years, Thomas; sons Gordon (Cheryl) of Ste. Anne, Man.; Thomas of Jasper, Alta.; daughters, Lisa Loner of Duncan, B.C.; Michelle Rae (Neil) of New South Wales, Australia and Kerry Giles (Larry) of Cochrane, Alta.; brother Albert Sellers (Mary) of Thunder Bay, Ont.; sister Mary-lou Dalgleish of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia; grandchildren, Matthew, Ken and William Turnbull, Aurora and Tom Loner, Dylan, Zachary and Monique Rae; special cousins, Lesley, Roger, Kingsley and Richard; numerous nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends she shared her life with. Mom grew up in Thunder Bay, Ont. and was a avid athlete. As a teen she worked as an au pair at Loon Lake, Ont., where she met Dad. Mom and Dad courted during her training at St. Micheals Nursing School and following their marriage in 1956, she pursued her vocations at many locations in Canada. Moms special interest was pediatric nursing, which she sadly left due to the physical demands. However, for many years prior to retirement she enjoyed sharing her gift of working with others at St. Boniface General Hospital Psychiatric Unit. Moms greatest joy was to spend time with family. She was a loving and selfless Mom, creating a family atmosphere which nurtured our devotion to each other. We have fond memories of the times we spent together dancing to music, entertaining family friends (who didnt love the boxing day parties she threw!) and an especially magical summer vacation we had at Clear Lake. We are ever grateful our home was an open gathering place for us and our friends during our teenage years. Guitars, singing and teenage exuberance were welcomed; she was a keen supporter of the St. Alphonsus Folk Group. Moms home of the heart was always at her family cabin at Silver Islet, outside Thunder Bay, and she has requested her ashes be spread there following her remembrance service at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church. The family would like to invite friends to join us at St. Alphonsus at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27 to celebrate Moms life.
