EDWARD FROVICH "UNCLE ED" On Wednesday, June 21, 2000, Dad passed away with his family by his side. Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Grace (nee Mazur) five children, sons, Leslie (Valerie and children, Trinda, Michael, Patrick and Alexander), Gordon (Helen and children, Kenneth and Tracy), Terry (Laurie and children, Matthew, Erin, Kayli and Brendan), and daughters, Jo-Anne (Albert (Sonny) and children, Lee, Kerrie and Kaylan) and Eleanor. Ed was born on April 21, 1921 to Nicholas and Mary Frovich in Winnipeg, Man., the youngest of five children. Ed was predeceased by his parents, brother Paul "Pete" and sisters, Emily and Victoria. He is survived by brother William (Joe) and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Dad lived most of his life in Elmwood, attending George V School until the third grade, when he was needed to help his father in the wood cutting business. Dad has fond memories of his early childhood; sliding down the stairs of the original Concordia Hospital, onto the banks of the Red River and water bombing the open touring cars from the high tracks at Mission St. He always remembered the girl with the muddy knees in the Holy Eucharist Church first communion picture. After working with his father, Dad travelled through Western Canada on the freights looking for work. During this time, he was conscripted to march in the Regina Founders Day Parade by the local Sheriff. Dad and Mom were married on November 10, 1945. At the time, Dad was training in autobody work and auto painting. Shortly after, he worked for Building Products and Supply and later for Thomas Jackson and Son, which became Supercrete, starting in the garage and paint shop and later driving a concrete mixer. "Uncle Ed" will be remembered by many in the construction industry for his sense of humour and practical jokes. In retirement Dad was a voracious reader, sports enthusiast and bad influence on his grandchildren. Grandpa could always coax Granny into finding a treat or something special for the grandchildren. Earlier this year Dad was diagnosed with cancer. After extended stays at the Grace and Concordia Hospitals, Dad chose to spend his final days at home, surrounded by his family in comfortable surroundings. We wish to thank Doctors, Inglis and Welch, the staff at the Grace and Concordia Hospitals, the VON Nurses, especially Marlene and Anne, the Better Care Health Services staff and the City of Winnipeg Emergency Response Service at Fire Station Number 2. We appreciate the support, care and attention you provided our father. Prayers will be sung at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 25 in the chapel of Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (across from the Mint). Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 26 at Holy Eucharist Church, corner of Watt and Munroe. Interment and reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3C 2B7. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Boulevard 982-7550
