Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY ANTOINETTE FESTON (nee YACHESON) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary, on June 23, 2000, at Seven Oaks Hospital after a long battle with a very weak body and many years of pain. She was born on July 25, 1915, in Brooklands, Man., the youngest child of Anton and Maria Yachyszyn. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Walter, in 1999, and also her mother and father; brothers, Mike, Ted and Nick; and sisters, Paula and infant Olga. She attended Brooklands School and then Wesley College. As a young girl she danced, played the mandolin and sang in many Ukrainian choirs. As she grew older, she developed a life-long love of opera, and every Saturday afternoon for 65 years could be found by her radio listening to the Metropolitan Opera Broadcast from New York. Mary (Auntie Minnie) loved her garden and flowers. She loved the many pets she had throughout her life and is missed by Jackson and Patches. She produced countless beautifully knitted sweaters, mitts and scarves for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and the keeper of her large extended familys archives. She was very proud to have worked at the Bay for several years. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Chris) Benson of Winnipeg, Joan (Don) Fairbairn of Port Coquitlam, B.C.; grandchildren, Kim, Bonnie and Leslie Fairbairn and Tyler and Stephanie Benson. She also has many nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S.A. The family would like to extend our thanks to the nurses on 5U3 of Seven Oaks Hospital for their many attempts to make Mary as comfortable as possible in her last few days of life. We especially thank Ewa Trokajlo of Home Care for her kindness to Mary and for the wonderful care she took of her for more than a year. Prayers will be at Glen Eden Funeral Home, at 7:30 p.m., Monday, June 26, and funeral services on Tuesday, June 27, at 10:00 a.m., also at Glen Eden with Rev. Michael Skrumeda officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Although we will miss you dearly, Mom, we know at last you are suffering no pain. Rest in peace beloved Mother and Baba.
