JAMES MICHAEL HARRIS It is with great sadness that we announce that Michael passed away at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 58, on Friday evening, June 23rd, 2000. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his mother and very dearest friend Georgina Playfair Harris, his brother Peter Marston Harris, his sisters Anne (Floyd) Dowling and Marilyn (Dimitrios) Alexiou, and by his nieces and nephews - Debbie Harris, Heidi Manthei and Joseph, Lucas and Max, Lisa Manthei, Thanasi Alexiou and Georgina Alexiou, as well as by many favourite aunts, cousins and friends. Michael was predeceased by his father James Marston Harris, his grandmother Dorothy Maude Mackechnie and his nephew John Marston Manthei. Michael spent his childhood years in Winnipeg, Kenora and Fort Lauderdale, enjoying hockey and swimming, and especially sailing his boat at the Lake of the Woods and Gimli. As a young man he was the proud proprietor of the Michael Harris Gift Shop, where his faithful customers sought him out for his good service and cheerful manner. Michael followed sports and politics with great fervor, being especially proud of his fathers participation as a player with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Michael was a man of great courage and kindness, and lived his life by following the golden rule. A service in celebration of Michaels life will be held on Wednesday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, with Revd R.L. Brownlie officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, where Michael will be laid to rest beside his father. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre afterwards. The family especially wishes to thank Dr. M. Chernick and Dr. J.D. Young for their care of Michael, and the Grace Hospital Nursing Staff of 3 North for their compassionate and loving support. Michael especially appreciated the care given to him these past years by Louise Gillman and her Home Care Workers, Meals on Wheels and Victoria Lifeline, and by special friends, Leonard Power and Mike Pitman. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made, in Michaels memory, to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715. You have fought the good fight, Michael. Youll be remembered for doing your very best. We love you and shall miss you. Rest in peace.
