Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR GARTH ROSS DIEHL Passed away June 23, 2000 at Grace Hospital surrounded by family. Born and raised in Portage la Prairie, Garth, graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in medicine in 1946 while serving in the Army Reserve 18th medical corps. He entered private practice in 1948 with the Drs. McIntyre. Following his contributions in establishing the Manitoba chapter of the College of Family Practise he was one of the founders of the College of Family Physicians of Canada to which he was elected president in 1965. Garth co-founded the Intensive Care Unit at the Misericordia Hospital and served as its Medical Director from 1974 to 1996. He was devoted to the unit and spent some of the happiest years of his medical life there. Known for his unique sense of humour and light hearted touch, Garth combined his compassion and innovative approaches to health care with an abiding respect for his patients and colleagues. Imbued with curiosity, an open mind and deep religious feeling, Garth was a founding member of the congregation of Oxford United Church in 1953. He was a lifelong parishioner and valued member of the churchs community. He is survived by Ruth, his loving wife of 53 years, and children, Shawn Aylsworth, Kevin Ferguson and Garcea Ann. Garth adored and was proud of his children who will always be guided by the strength of his humble grace. He was predeceased by his sister Isabelle and is lovingly remembered as "Uncle Garth" by nieces and nephews, family and relatives - Norman, Ryan, Garth, Mark, Eric, Karen, Edith, Heather, Sally, Wayne, Greg, Mary, Bob, Lynda, Kay, Rodney, Spencer and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He will also be sadly missed by Theodore, Scarlet, JoePye, Hector, Casey, Kira, Darwin and his many other four legged friends. This kind and gentle man will be missed by all who knew him. The family especially thanks Dr. Rudy Padua, Garths longtime friend and doctor, for his care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation in Dr. Diehls memory to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, 99 Cornish Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1A2. Services will be held Tuesday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Oxford United Church (the corner of Fleet and Oxford street) and officiated by the Reverend Bob Haverluck. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
