LAWRENCE ROY SMOLINSKI Unexpectedly, on Friday June 23, 2000, Lawrence passed away at the Johnson Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love and support of his family. He was born on October 28, 1937 in Shorncliffe, MB. His memory will be forever cherished by his wife Marie, sons Darwin (Marion) and Douglas, and daughter Jeanette, as well as his brothers David (Norma), Roy (Carol), sisters Grace (Nels) Jacobson and Debbie (Jim) Gerbrandt and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law Anna Kibsey and his brothers-in-law Greg and John Kibsey and families. He was predeceased by his mother Anne in 1995, father Paul in 1997 and by a brother Alfred in infancy. Early in his life, Lawrence graduated from Musker Engineering Institute with a diploma in auto mechanics. After having worked at various hydro station projects, at Chrysler Canada in Windsor, the Thompson Nickel Mine and at Versatile Manufacturing in Winnipeg, he returned home to pursue his first love which was farming. He settled next to his fathers homestead, where he farmed for the past thirty years. Some of his pleasures in life included family gatherings, the Saturday night Polka Party, auction sales and coffee with his friends. Unfortunately, his upcoming dream of retirement was cut short by his sudden illness. Lawrence enriched all of our lives and we will miss him dearly. Dad, you were very brave and we are grateful that we were able to be together in your final moments. Lawrence, you are a kind and gentle man, and we will miss you dearly. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. on Monday June 26, at the Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, at St. Philips Roman Catholic Church Arborg. Rev. Fr. R.D. Kowalski will officiate with interment to follow in St. Josephs Cemetery Shorncliffe. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8.
