MARY GRANT SHEPHERD CASE Mary Grant Shepherd Case, in her 98th year, died on Sunday morning, June 25, 2000, at Meadowood Manor. Born May 5, 1903, in Dunfermline, Scotland, to Robert and Elizabeth (Black) Shepherd. She came to Canada in 1913, celebrating her 10th birthday aboard ship. Her marriage to William Case ended in separation in 1946, leaving her with nine children, most of whom were still dependent. Mother worked for Quintons Cleaners during the day and cleaned office at night to support her family. Still, her home was spotless and she somehow made time to sew beautifully for her children. Hers was a life of sacrifice and determination that her children should have a better life. Thank you, Mom. Mothers last years were spent in the very good care of Meadowood Personal Care Home. Despite, or perhaps because of her wicked wit, Mother seemed to be a favourite with the staff. Thanks to all who took such excellent care of her and also to the volunteers, activity workers, housekeeping staff and administration, and to the Chaplain. Mary Case was the last survivor of five children, predeceased by her siblings, David, Elizabeth (Anderson), Janet (Kerr) and Robert; as well as by her estranged husband William; sons, Robert, William and Gary; and granddaughter Merren Daly. She is survived by her son Allen of Virden, Man.; daughters, Irene McKee of Odessa, Ont., Elizabeth Daly of Surrey, B.C., Diane Perego of Mississauga, Ont., and Ruth Parisien and Kathryn MacKinnon of Winnipeg; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and, in accordance with Mothers express wishes, there will be no service. She wished each of us who loved her to believe that she was going to a better place where she would, at last, be free of the burdens life had placed upon her. If we believe as she wished, we cannot mourn. For you, Mom, the words of Tennyson you so loved: Sunset and evening star And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea... For though from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. WERESCHUK FUNERAL CHAPEL 582-0929
