PAUL ZANEWICH Paul peacefully passed away on Monday, June 26, 2000 with his family members by his side. He courageously battled with both Parkinsons disease and heart disease. Paul was born in Sclater, MB on June 30, 1925 and later moved to Winnipeg to live with his Aunt Julia and Uncle Alex Ostaf in 1940. In 1945 he served in the Canadian Army for an 18 month period. Paul and Laura, married for 46 years, worked together to raise seven wonderful children. They owned a Taxicab and managed the Winnipeg operations of Gods River Lodge for 40 years. Pauls other areas of employment included Ostaf Autobody and Spring Works, Swifts Meat Packers, CP Railway, and most recently, even with declining health, Elk Island Lodge. Not only was Dad very active in business, he also stayed busy hauling his children and sometimes even the whole team to sporting events. Although a very busy man, he found great happiness in lending a helping hand to those in need. Paul was a very active man; nothing could slow him down. Besides his loving wife Laura, Paul is survived by his children, Kevin (Christine), Paula (Richard), Gary (Santa), Darcy (Susan), Robert (Kim), Leanna (Darryl) and Leslie (Laura) grandchildren, Danielle, Breanna, Dallas, Joshua, Jared, Chase, Chelsea, Kaitlyn, David and Stefanie; seven sisters, Pearl, Mary, Anne, Olga, Vicky, Nel, Joan; brother Harry; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends all over North America. He was predeceased by his mother and father; two brothers, Peter and Steve; one sister Dorothy. Dad found great joy in spending time with his family, including his beloved grandchildren whom he often took out for ice cream. His smile, laughter and sense of humour will be sadly missed by family and friends. Our family greatly appreciated the kindness and compassion of the Victoria Hospital staff. Also a special thanks to Dr. P. Garber, Dr. A. Gomori and Dr. P. Patel. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke or Parkinsons Foundations in Pauls memory. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. at Luxton Avenue. Cremation has taken place. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements 586-8044.
