JEAN ELIZABETH PENNER Peacefully on June 25, 2000 at Poseidon Care Centre in Winnipeg, Jean Penner passed away at the age of 79 years. Jean Elizabeth Penner was born March 29, 1921 in Allan, SK, to parents Frank and Alma Cavers. The family moved to Saskatoon where she grew up, and attended Nutana Collegiate. Shortly after, she started her working career as a medical secretary with a prominent local heart specialist, Dr. David Baltzan. She left Saskatoon in 1952, getting married, and moving to Calgary. Jean and David moved briefly to Edmonton, before moving back to Calgary to start a family. In 1967, the family moved to Winnipeg and for the next 15 years lived among the birds and the trees at 1860 Henderson Hwy., right beside their great neighbours, the Hrabs. Mom loved horseback riding when she was a child and kept that love all her life. She had so many different interests, from making ceramics (which we treasure now as special gifts) to curling (for which she brought home several trophies). Her love of music came from her earliest years, when she would sit at the piano and sing, while her mother played. Jean enjoyed many types of music, from classical to jazz, from blues to rock. She also loved to read and it gave her pleasure to pass her books around so others could enjoy them too. She loved swimming, visiting her friends, travelling, the movies, but she always made sure her family came first. Jean Elizabeth Penner was predeceased by her parents Frank and Alma Cavers and brother Jim. She is still loved and will always be missed by David; son Mark; and daughter Tracy (Grant Andrusky) and grandchildren, Leah Jean and Benjamin David; sister-in-law Marjorie Cavers, niece Anne, nephews John and Bill, as well as many relatives, neighbours and close friends. She also held a special place in her heart for her oldest friend Lavonne McGowan (Aunt Peg) (Saskatoon), her dearest cousin Betty Naismith (Calgary) and her dear friend Barb (Winnipeg). The family would like to thank the staff at Poseidon Care Centre for the kind efforts they made to make her comfortable and ease her pain. Memorial service will be held Thursday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in Saskatoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., R3E 9Z9. For those who care to honour Jean in a more personal manner, she would ask that you do a kindness for a stranger. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
