HARRY WOLODARSKY Harry Wolodarsky died peacefully and with dignity in his 96th year at the Sharon Home on June 24, 2000. Harry is sadly mourned by his daughter, Sylvia Zinger (New York) and his son, Bert Wold (Winnipeg). He will also be missed by his grandchildren Jay (Marcia) and Larry (Bernard Paine) Zinger, Saul (Sue Anderson), Danny and Amy Wold and his great-grandchildren, Eric and Jessie Zinger and Aubrey Anderson. Also mourning his passing are his sisters-in-law, Anne Steingarten and Birdie Weber of Los Angeles. Harry was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Rae (Fineman) his son, Aaron; his sisters, Katie Silver and Leah Matlin and his brother Al (Sam) Weber. Harry was born in Cherson, Ukraine, March 22, 1905. His family came to Winnipeg when he was five years old. He left school to help support his family, not having completed his seventh grade. He did jobs such as billposting for the local theatres, and then later, costuming for the old Queens Theatre. From 1928 until 1952 he operated Harrys Delicatessen on Fort Street. Later, he owned the Drake Hotel before he retired from active business. He was really a very shy person and had few close friends. Although he was not active socially in the community, Harry was a devoted family person who could be relied upon in times of crisis. At the Sharon Home for the past 20 years, he often did minor shopping chores for some of the residents or took bills for payment to the local banks or drug store for the "old folks" at the Home until 1997, when he became less mobile and no longer went for his long daily walks. The family would like to thank those of the staff of the Sharon Home who were in day-to-day contact with Harry, particularly the 2nd floor care staff. A grave-side service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery, 230 Armstrong Avenue off North Main Street, West Kildonan, Gate #2. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba (477-7525) or to any charity of your choice.
