Date of Passing: Jun 27, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN MARUCA It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John, at the Menno Home for the Aged in Grunthal, MB on Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at the age of 74. John was born on November 12, 1925 to Vincenzo and Maria Maruca, who have since predeceased him along with two brothers, Johnny and Jim (Vince). He leaves to cherish his memory a dear sister Mary Torchia, and two brothers, Joe Maruca (wife Alyce) and Tony Maruca, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. As a young man prior to his illness, John was employed with the Canadian National Railway. John also briefly served in the Second World War and more recently acquired a medal of recognition for his efforts, which he proudly displayed on his chest. Beyond that, John had an artists soul. He enjoyed animals and loved people. He had artistic talent, although his true passion in life was his love of music. Although he never complained about his infirmities, and the limitations placed upon him because of them, it is music that made his life rich, and enabled him to cope. He listened to his music all day long and played his harmonica. It didnt matter what type of music, as he had an appreciation for it all. He also looked forward to his music therapy and special events when volunteers would come in to sing and play instruments. A special thank you to all of the staff and patients at the Menno Home for the Aged, which has served as Johns extended family during the past 27 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Lucien Roy, in Johns honour, on Friday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 425 Rosseau Ave., E., Winnipeg, MB. Interment at the Transcona Cemetery with a luncheon following. Pallbearers will be Peter Cantafio, Jim Gunson, Greg Maruca, Peter Maruca, Ralph Williams and Andre Leveille. In lieu of flowers if friends so wish, a donation in Johns memory may be made to the charity of your choice. "We are all put on earth to learn different lessons that will enable our spirits to grow. We do not know Gods larger plan, but we trust that every life has value and significance. Every life is a note in Gods Great Symphony." Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
